mission

The Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation aims to build awareness, understanding and positive public perception about Delaware’s farm operations and fresh local food. The foundation will raise the funds necessary to successfully achieve the mission and provide educational materials, grant scholarships, and feed the hungry.

On Saturday, June 1, 2013 the New Castle County Farm Bureau and the newly formed Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation held their Inaugural 5K Milk Run & Walk at Appoquinimink High School in Middletown, DE. The event aimed to raise funds to purchase milk for children and adults in need. The Ministry of Caring, through the Emmanuel Dining room, serves nutritious meals at no cost to needy and hungry men, women and children every day. In 2012, 24,000 meals were served to children, starting with a glass of milk.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, only 13.5 percent of girls and 36.3 percent of boys ages 12 to 19 get the recommended daily amount of calcium need to build strong bones.  Thanks to our generous sponsors, we were able to raise over $18,000 for The Ministry of Caring to provide milk for children and adults in need.

Official photos from the event can be found on the Farm Bureau Flickr account.
